With the ICD-10 transition date only 65 days away, here is another tip to ease the transition:
Identify the top 50-100 ICD-9 diagnosis codes you use, and learn the corresponding ICD-10 codes (or groups of codes). You don’t have to learn all 69,000 ICD-10 codes. You already aren’t using all 13,000 ICD-9 codes. Find your list of top 50-100 codes and make the mappings for them. You may find that there is a simple 1-to-1 mapping on many of them. Expand your list of top codes you’ve mapped until you have 80% of your claims covered. We recommend setting aside an hour (or two) a day to do this. This should make the October 1, 2015 deadline much less stressful.
Lytec 2015 allows you to enter ICD-10 codes before October 1 and it will determine whether to bill with ICD-9 codes or ICD-10 codes. You are able to assign each carrier a transition date. Once you have your ICD-9 to ICD-10 mappings set up properly, Lytec will automatically determine whether to use the old ICD-9 code or the new ICD-10 code, based on carrier transition date.
Here is a quick way to find out your most common diagnosis codes in Lytec:
Run a Diagnosis Code Analysis Summary Report for the last 12-18 months. . You can export that report to Excel and sort it by units, largest to smallest. Now you can easily see your most common diagnosis codes.
Did the Diagnosis Code Analysis Summary report pique your interest about reporting functionality in Lytec? Are there other reports, other summaries you’d like to see?
