With ICD-10 looming on the horizon, PSS would like to provide some tips to help ease the transition. We will be sending out a series of tips each week leading up to the transition to ICD-10 on October 1st, 2015. We hope the tips will help you be better prepared.

Tip 1: Identify potential changes to work flow and business processes, including clinical documentation, encounter forms, and public health reporting. Do you already have the necessary software? If you do not already have your ICD-10 ready software, contact us and we will help you find the best solution for your practice.

Tip 2: Assess staff training needs. Identify the office staff who are responsible for coding and those who require knowledge of the new codes.  This should not be limited to billing staff, but include clinical and physicians. These staff should be attending training and studying what new codes your practice is going to need to be using. If you need our assistance with training, please don’t hesitate to call and schedule time with our ICD 10 specialists.

 Tip 3: Talk with payers about how ICD-10 implementation might affect contracts and their readiness for ICD-10.  Check with your payers to see if they’re going to have any special instructions for the transition; especially any workers comp carriers or liability insurance, as these types of insurance are not required to change to ICD-10.
